Friss oder stirb
Friss oder stirb is a 3D racing and shooting game a fellow student and I programmed for a computer graphics exercise at the university. Cute rubber ducks get wheels and a cannon. 🙂
Our task was to implement a graphics engine with C++, OpenGL and GLSL. However, we were allowed to use NVIDIA PhysX, Assimp, FMOD and other libraries (everything that does no rendering).
My specific tasks included game-mechanics and gameplay-programming, parts of the graphics engine, the Cel-shading, AI-programming, performance, software-architecture, sound-management and graphics-design.
Pirates vs. Ninjas
Pirates vs. Ninjas is an Android-game I and a fellow student made for the multimedia exercise at the university. You are a pirate captain who has stolen the alcohol supplies of the ninjas. Those are now very mad and attack your crew and your ship. Arm yourself and shoot them down!
Our task was to implement an Android-game in Java (with some restrictions). We had to do the game-design, programming and animations. (however, we were allowed to use graphics and sounds made by friends)
My specific task was the game-design, software-architecture, performance, the weapon-system, the sound-management and the animations.
We have stopped development. Unfortunately, this game has a lot of bugs, so it is not ready to be published in the play store.
A Geek’s Warfare
A Geek’s Warfare is a game I and some friends create in our free time. It will be a real-time strategy-game based in a fantasy world. A bunch of armies fight for their place on a small island: pirates, ninjas, dodos, forest creatures, orcs, elves, undead, robots, mythical creature and elementals.
Unfortunately, most of us are university students and some of us have jobs too, so there is not much time left to work on this game. What we already have accomplished is a great part of the game design, so we have a clear vision of how this game will be like.
Besides inventing the game concept in the first place and my role as project manager I am also responsible for programming the game’s front end. With this in mind, I am kind of the daddy of this game. 🙂 A Geek’s Warfare was also the reason for renting this server.
War of Tribes
War of Tribes was a hobby project I started at the age of 16. It was my first big project and thus far the most extensive game I have ever made. I worked on it for two years and did the programming, graphics and publishing all on my own. At its best I had over 100 players online at the same time.
In War of Tribes you take over leadership of a tribe. You have to build infrastructure, research technologies, train troops and crush your enemies. There are six nations: humans, dwarves, elves, orcs, undead and trolls. I implemented a clan-system for players to organize and battle together, a trading-system, etc.
Unfortunately, I developed this game when I started programming. By this time I had never heard of software architecture or (even worst) backups before. When my free-hoster blocked my game because of the traffic it generated, I had no backups of my databases and a terrible code that was in the middle of a refactoring-process (I didn’t know about version-control either). So I had to stop development of this game…
Through my lifetime as a software and game developer I have made a lot of other projects like Dotris (a Tetris-clone), Dodorun (a flash-based jump and run) or Dodos Sudokus (a sudoku-generator).
